Iblis, the Serpent Satan, the Devil, Archangel Lucifer, Chitanam, Red Dragon with Seven Heads and Ten Horns in the Garden of Eden

Iblis the Serpent

A research about Adam, his wife, Iblis and what happened while in the Garden and does Iblis have children
By Khidr Amari, 2012
There are many meanings of the Arabic word Jinn can be found in the Qur’an in terms of its expression.
Allah says that when Musa saw the staff wiriting as if it was a snake:
“And he was told, “Throw down your staff.” But when he saw it writhing as if it jānnun (were a snake), he turned in flight and did not return. [Allah said], “O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.” Sura 28:31
Allah says when we were in mother wombs were were fetuses:
“Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were ajinnatun (fetuses) in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.” Sura 53/32
In comparison to the Qur’an the Bible says in Genesis:
“The LORD said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became le·na·chash (a snake), and he ran from it.” Exodus 4:3
Nachash means serpent, serpent’s, serpents, snake
a. as biting,
b. rod becomes
c. (apparently) as hissing
d. as crafty tempter
Na·chash can also mean figurative of oppressor:
“Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of na·chash (the serpent’s) root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying sa·raf (serpent).” Isaiah 14:29
Now what can we get from the Snake, Serpent that is mentioned in Genesis and throughout the Bible? Who was with Adam and Eve, or his wife in the Garden of Eden? In Revelation it mentions about that ‘old serpent called the Devil.’
“And the great drakōn (dragon) was cast out, that old ophis (serpent), called diabolos (the Devil), and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelations 12/9
Diabolos – slanderous, the Slanderer, the Devil. a slanderer; a false accuser; unjustly criticizing to hurt (malign) and condemn to sever a relationship. Satan, the prince of demons, the author of evil, persecuting good men, estranging mankind from God and enticing them to sin
So in Revelations the Devil is given the word ‘old serpent’ and the word or term ‘old’ is defined as:
1) having lived or existed for a long time
2) ancient
3) time long past (days of old)
In Genesis 3/1-3 the same Serpent was in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve who helped cause their fall from bliss. This is something I wasn’t taught in Sunday school that this serpent was in the Garden with Adam and his wife. I was told this serpent was a snake. I didn’t know that this snake was aman, known as the devil or the Shaytan, Iblis. Yes, Satan was a man in the Garden of Eden according to Genesis.
“Now han·na·chash (the serpent) was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto han·na·chash (the serpent), Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.” Genesis 3:1-3
The word or term ‘serpent’ is used mostly in the Bible to describe someone not something that is evil, wicked, and/or unrighteous, figurative of oppressor.
“Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of na·chash (the serpent’s) root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying sa·raf (serpent).” Isaiah 14/29
In Genesis 49/17 we are given another description of the tribe of Dan as becoming an unrighteous people and so as a collective body (tribe) they are also called ‘serpent.’
“Dan shall be na·chash (a serpent) in the way, she·fi·fon (A horned snake) in the path, That bites the horse’s heels, So that his rider falls backward.” Genesis 49/17
In the Bible, Scriptures, Gospels we are told to examine the serpent’s character and if we would have found that the serpent’s deeds/actions were contrary to the laws of Yahweh, Allah. It wasn’t a snake that spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden it was the Devil, Satan who was transformed as a physical man.
So we have serpents are really human beings, some are giving characteristics of snakes . This is why Yahshua/Isa (Jesus) said in the Gospel that ye shall know them by their fruit.
“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.” Matthew 7/16-18
So here we are told that people no matter who they are can be our friends or strangers we have to watch with a careful eye to see their fruit (actions/deeds) they bring fourth which makes it as Allah says in the Qur’an mubin/clear/obvious. Again, keeping in mind that the word ‘serpent’ is used in the Bible to describe a wicked person or people. If we study the words of Yahshua/Isa as he described the unrighteous of the Israelites as ‘serpents’.
“But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You brood echidnōn (of vipers), who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” Matthew 3/7
“Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?” Matthew 23/33
“So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, “You brood echidnōn (of vipers), who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” Luke 3/7
So a serpent is not a snake literally. A serpent can be a human being, the Shaytanu and his tribe/followers, his band of Shayatin/devils who are imposters who also comes as angels of light, men, women pretending to be righteous and pure yet only to pull us into darkness. There is a spiritual warfare being waged against Bani Adam, Sons of Adam and these are nothing more than creation of Shaytnu because of their fruits. They bring wickedness and sin/evil which makes them creation of Shaytanu.
In the Gospel Yahshua/Isa ibn Maryam called the Hebrew Pharisees the children of the devil:
“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8/44
Does the Qur’an validate Iblis having children?
When you investigate further and see the usage of the word being used and the context we know that this act Shaytan is threatening us with to share children with us, him and his tribe is of a physical act. Just as Adam had descendents, so Iblees had descendents too, as Allah says of Iblees:
“You may entice them with your voice, and mobilize all your forces and all your men against them, and share in their ‘amwāli’ (money) ‘wal-awlādi’ (and the children), and promise them. Anything the devil promises is no more than an illusion. As for My servants, you have no power over them.” Your Lord suffices as an advocate. [17:64-65]
The Arabic root to ‘awladi’ is Walada which means to beget, give birth.
“and (remember) when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves unto Adam.” So they prostrated themselves except Iblis (Satan). He was one of the jinn; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblis) wadhurriyyatahu (and his offspring) as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zalimun.” Sura 18/50
The Bible says that Yahweh/Allah clearly expresses the belief or existence of a people that are not of His own, but rather people whom He refers to as Satan’s seed.
“He that committeth sin is of the devil for the devil sinneth from the beginning…” 1 John 3/8
“Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;” Deuteronomy 13/13
“Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into your house, that we may know him.” Judges 19/22
“Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.” 1 Samuel 1/16
“And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, You did blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.” 1 Kings 21/10
It seems that some of the Scriptures in the Bible speak of Shaytanu/Satan/Belial/Devil having physical children but it we are also asked the question:
“And what harmony has Christ with Belial? or what part has he that believes with an infidel?” 2 Corinthians 6:15
In the Bible, Yahshua/Isa taught his disciples about the nature of the children of Shaytanu/Satan in parables and all to guide and teach them. One such parable is written in the book of Matthew 13/36-43. In the verse 39, Yahshua/Isa describes the children of the wicked one as being guided by the Shaytanu/Satan/Devil:
“and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is a full end of the age, and the reapers are messengers.” Matthew 13/39
A good friend or stranger would not influence you to walk contrary to the righteous path.
If the Jinn were not basharan (human being) but they were invisible, creatures created from fire could they be sent a basharan (human being) as a messenger? Some Muslims say that Jinns are fiery spirits can take on human and animal shapes to influence men to do good or evil. This belief is false. The Qur’an doesn’t support nor validate this at all. Just to believe that the all Jinns are evil is a contradiction against what the Qur’an says. Remember, Allah says that among the Jinn people are believers, Muslims and some who are unrighteous.
Allah says,
“And among us sāliḥūna (are the righteous), and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.” 72/11
“And among us are Muslims, and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim – those have sought out the right course.” 72/14
Jinns who are human can be righteous or unrighteous, they can be human devils among Jinn or Ins basically they all can be the ‘devil in disguise’.”
To me it’s clear that ’tarawnahum’ (cannot see them) in Surah 7:27 does not mean ‘Unseen’ or ‘Invisibility’ at all. To me it’s basically saying the opposite and that we can see them.
If the Arabic root for ‘tarawnahum’ (cannot see them) is Ra’a which means to see, think, hold, in opinion of, perceive, judge, consider, know… then just because they we cannot see them does not mean we can’t see them at all. What we think we don’t see in our own perceptions, or what we judge as the appearance of who and what Jinns are actually Jinns, mortal beings just like us Al Insi made up of flesh, blood and bones living right on the planet earth.
Was Shaytanu invisible or was he among those who were fighting against the believers?
“”And [remember] when Shaitan made their deeds pleasing to them waqāla (and said), “No one can overcome you and indeed I am a jārun (neighbor) for you. ” But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned ʿaqibayhi (on his heels) and said, “Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I arā (see) what not tarawna (you see); indeed I fear Allah. And Allah is severe in penalty.”” Sura 8/48
aqibayhi comes from the Arabic root: Ayn-Qaf-Ba which means to succeed, take the place of, come after, strike on the heel, come at the heel, follow anyone closely
aqqaba – to endeavour repeatedly, return, punish, requitt, retrace one’s step
aqab – to die, leave offspring's, give in exchange
aqabatun – place hard to ascent
uqbun – success. ta’aqqaba – to take careful information, shout, follow step by step
aqub – heel, son, grandson, offspring, pivot, axis
uqba – requital, result, reward, end, success
iqab (pl. aqubat) – punishment after sin, one who puts off or reverses, who looks at the consequence or result of the affair
mu’aqqibat – who succeed each other, some thing that comes immediately after another thing or succeeds another thing without interruption. It is a double plural feminine of mu’aqqib. The plural feminine form indicates the frequency of the deeds, since in Arabic the feminine form is sometimes employed to impart emphasis and frequency.
To see or not to see
Jarun comes from the Arabic root jīm wāw rā which means to decline or deviate, act wrongfully or unjustly, to live near or close (to another), to protect, save or rescue, grant refuge.
It’s clear that Shaitan was one of the disbelievers fighting in physical form against the believers and once he saw the what he saw he ran and abandoned his followers. For example, in Surah 5/80 Allah says,
“”tarā (You see) many of them becoming allies of those who disbelieved. How wretched is that which they have put forth for themselves in that Allah has become angry with them, and in the punishment they will abide eternally.””
“”Do not taraw (you see) that Allah has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book from Him.”” 31/20
“”Did not tara (you see) what your Lord did to ‘Aad”” 89/6
“”Do not tara (you see) those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who have disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, “If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will not obey, in regard to you, anyone – ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you.” But Allah testifies that they are liars.”” 59/11
“”Then he caused them to fall by deceit; so when they tasted of the tree, their evil inclinations became manifest to them, and they both began to cover themselves with the leaves of the garden; and their Lord called out to them: Did I not forbid you both from that tree and say to you that the Shaitan is your ‘mubīnun’ (clear) enemy?”” Surah 7:22
“”O men! eat the lawful and good things out of what is in the earth, and do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan; surely he is your ‘mubīnun’ (clear) enemy.”” Surah 2:168
“”O you who believe! enter into submission one and all and do not follow the footsteps of Shaitan; surely he is your‘ mubīnun’ (clear) enemy.”” Surah 2:208
“”And of cattle (He created) beasts of burden and those which are fit for slaughter only; eat of what Allah has given you and do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan; surely he is your ‘mubīnun’ (clear) enemy.”” Surah 6:142
“”He said: O my son! do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they devise a plan against you; surely the Shaitan is an‘ mubīnun’ (clear) enemy to man.” Surah 12:5
“”And say to My servants (that) they speak that which is best; surely the Shaitan sows dissensions among them; surely the Shaitan is an ‘mubīnan’ (clear) enemy to man.”” Surah 17:53
“”Did I not charge you, O children of Adam ! that you should not serve the Shaitan? Surely he is your ‘mubīnun’ (clear) enemy,.” Surah 36:60
“”And let not the Shaitan prevent you; surely he is your ’mubīnun’ (clear) enemy.”” Surah 43:62
Allah tells us clearly through 8 different Surahs/ayats that Shaitan is an ‘mubīnun’ (clear) enemy to us on a consistent basis. Again, and again Allah is saying he’s an ‘mubinun’ (clear) enemy now Allah didn’t just say for example in other ayats Allah said,
““And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the sinners and sufficient is your Lord as a Guide and a Helper.” Surah 25:31
“”Surely the Shaitan is your enemy, so take him for an enemy; he only invites his party that they may be inmates of the burning.” ” Surah 35:6
“”So We said: O Adam! This is an enemy to you and to your wife; therefore let him not drive you both forth from the garden so that you should be unhappy;”” Surah 20:117
The Arabic word ‘tarawnahum’ doesn’’t negate visibility and it clearly doesn’’t say that Iblis and his tribe are ‘Unseen’ or ‘Invisible’.
The Arabic word for ‘mubīnun’ is Bana which means:
1) Clear
2) Obvious
3) Appear
Mubin means:
1) Explaning clearly
2) Clear
3) Beyond doubt
4) Obvious
Mubinun means:
1) Clear
2) Open to see
Allah says,
“”and do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan; surely he is your ‘mubīnun’ (clear) enemy.”” Surah 2:168
“”do not follow the footsteps of Shaitan; surely he is your mubīnun (clear) enemy.”” Surah 2:208
Now examine the ayats about the Shaitan is our mubinun (clear) enemy. How can an indivisible enemy be mubin (open, obvious, clear) to see?
This would clearly indicate a contradiction but Alhumduillah we know this isn’’t a contradiction at all. This reflects back to Yahshua when he said:
“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.” Matthew 7/16-18
The Shaitan and his tribe, family, followers are not invisible at all and their actions towards the believers are clear in their fruits (actions/deeds).
Its their actions/deeds that will indicate who they truly are. They may hide behind the physical shell of being basharun (human being) but their true nature will be clear in time.
This is shown to us even by the disbelievers. Allah tells us also that the disbelievers are our clear enemies.
Allah says,
“”And when you traveled on the earth, there is no blame on you if you shorten the formal prayer if you feared that you would be persecuted by those who kafarū (disbelieved). The ones who are kāfirīna (disbelievers), they had been for you a ʿaduwwan (enemy) mubīnan (clear).” 4/101
So the same word mubin (clear) is used for Shaitan and his tribe/followers and for the disbelievers. If the Shaitan and his tribe who sees us from where we see them not are invisible enemies yet Allah says they are our clear enemies then how would we know them?
How would we know the disbelievers are our clear enemies easily through their actions and how would we know Shaitan and the Jinns that follows him the Shayatin (Devils) among the Jinn and Adamites, easily through their actions. Allah never tells us how Iblis was able to be in the Garden with Adam and his wife. Allah never says that Iblis was a serpent, snake, or other wise any different from Adam and his wife. One thing certain is that the ayat below confirms that the Shaitan will make sin look good to us on the planet earth and he will cause all to deviate except the purified ones:
Allah says,
“”He said, “O my Lord because you have left me to go astray, verily I will make sin look good to them on the planet earth and I will cause them to go astray; all of them, Except your servants, those purified ones.”” 15/39-40
Who are the Shayatin (Devils)?
Allah says,
“”And thus We have made for every prophet aduwwan (an enemy) – shayāṭīna (devils) from insi (Adamites) and jinn, yūḥī (inspiring) to one another decorative speech ghurūran (with delusion). But if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.”” 6/112
So we aduwwan (an enemy) so what does this mean truly?
Aduwwan comes from the Arabic root ʿayn dāl wāw means to pass by, overlook, transgress, turn aside.
adwun – wickedly, unjustly, spitefully, wrongfully
adi’yat – companies of warriors, chargers, horses of the warriors, wayfarers who run fast on their journey, swift horses
aduwatun – enmity. udwan – hostility, injustice
aduwwan (pl. aduwun) – enemy.
So this aduwwan (enemy) who is a Shayatin (devil) what is the definition of shayatin?
shayāṭīna comes from the Arabic root shīn ṭā nūn which means: become distant/far/remote, enter firmly / become firmly fixed therein / penetrate and be concealed, turn away in opposition (from direction/aim), devil, one excessively proud, corrupt, unbelieving, rebellious, insolent, audacious, obstinate, perverse, rope, deep curved well, it burned, became burnt, serpent, any blamable faculty or power of a man.
This can be any one among the sons/children of Adam or the people of the Jinn who can be a shayatin (devil).
What does Allah has to say about Iblis progeny? Allah says,
“”Behold! We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam”: They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him ‘wadhurriyyatahu’ (and his offspring) as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!”” Surah 18:50
Surah 18:50 gives us clearly a clear indication that Iblis had children here on Earth just like Adam did.
‘wadhurriyyatahu’ means: the Arabic word in this verse is descendants, offspring, progeny is Dhurriyyatahu.
There are two words frequently used in the Scripture to denote ‘seed’ they are:
Nasl – noun pl.
Insaal is progeny, offspring, issue, descendants.
This word is derived from the root nsala, to beget, procreate,
Other words derived from this word are:
1) Insaal- Procreation, generation
2) Tanaasul- Sexual propagation, procreation, generation, reproduction
3) Adaaut Tanaasal – Sexual organs, genitals
4) Da’ faut Tanaasal – Sexual impotence
5) Tanaasuliy – Procreative, propagative, genital, sexual
6) Mard Tanaasiliy – Venereal disease
7) Tanaasiliyaat – Sexual organs
8) Dhurriyah – Progeny, descendants, children, offspring;
Dhurriy, Of or pertaining to the offspring or progeny
The word dhurriyyah can be found in its plural form in Al Qur’an Surah 25:74 as offspring in Surah 6:88. The word dhurriyyatihim is used for descendants. In the Qur’an 2:124, 13:23 as offspring, in Surah 29:28 as seed and Surah 37:77 as progeny.
This is what human beings do; we sexually reproduce and have descendants, offspring, progeny and this is why the Qur’an says that the devil has Dhurriyyatahu æóÐõÑöøíóøÊóåõ which means descendants, offspring, progeny.
This reminds me after Allah intended to place a new and improve human being on earth there was a dispute/debate about it among the bialmalai alaala (Highest Assembly) Allah says,
“”I knew nothing of the bialmalai alaala (Highest Assembly) when they debated. It is only revealed to me that I am a clear warner.’ When your Lord said to the angels: “That I am creating a basharan (human being) from mud/clay. When I have shaped him and breathed from ruhi (My Spirit) into him, be submissive before him.’ The angels all bowed down together, Except Iblis. He was filled with pride and turned an unbeliever. Allah said, ‘Iblis, what prevents you from bowing down to the man I have made with My own hands? Are you too high and mighty?’ Iblis said, ‘I am better than him: You made me from fire, and him from clay.’ ‘Get out of here! You are rejected”.” 38/69-77
“”And mention, when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a khalîfatan (successive authority).” They said, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?” Allah said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.”” 2/30
The Malaikah (Angels),
“Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood?”
This would mean that what they have prior knowledge already about this type corruption and bloodshed that was going on in the earth. We know that the Jinn were created before Adam.
Allah says
“”And the jinn, We created aforetime ‘min’ (from) ‘nâri’ (fire) ‘l-samûmi’ (scorching).”” Surah 15:27
And because of the type of prototype of creation the Jinn race was created from and after Adam was given a new and improve essence of what constitutes a human being along with being placed on earth as a khalîfatan (successive authority) Iblis refused to obey Allah’s Command when he was told to be submissive towards Adam.
“…Allah said, ‘Iblis, what prevents you from bowing down to the man I have made with My own hands? Are you too high and mighty?’ Iblis said, ‘I am better than him: You made me from fire, and him from clay.’ ‘Get out of here! You are rejected”. Iblis failed to realize certain features about this new prototype new and improve basharun (human being):
Allah says,
“”And He taught Adam the names – all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, “Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful. They said, “Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.He said, “O Adam, inform them of their names.” And when he had informed them of their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed.”” 2/31-33
The distinguishing features about Adam:
1) placed as the new khalîfatan (successive authority) on earth
2) insâna created from black smooth mud. 15/26
3) Allah taught Adam the Names of everything. 2/31
4) Allah created Adam with His OWN HANDS. 38/75
5) Allah breathed into Adam of His Ruhi (Spirit). 2/38
5) The Malaikah/including Iblis and others had to be submissive to Adam. 2/34
So Iblis was expelled from Jannah (the Garden) at this point and those who followed him in his disbelief and rebellion.
“… “except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of kâfirîna (the disbelievers)“.” 2/34
How long was the Jinn and the other human beings on earth prior to Adam’s coming Allah knows Best.
Allah then asked Iblis why didn’t he follow His Command by being submissive to Adam:
“””Said He: “O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?”” 15/32
Iblis response was:
“”He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to libasharin (a human being) whom You hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape.”” 15/33
Allah then expelled Iblis from the Garden:
“”Allah said, “Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.”” 15/34
Allah then curses Iblis until the Day of Recompense.
“”And indeed, upon you laʿnata (is the curse) until the Day of Recompense.”” 15/35
laʿnata comes from the Arabic root lâm ʿayn nûn which means to drive away, execrate, deprive one of mercy and blessings, condemn, curse.
At this point Iblis was deprived of Allah’s Mercy and His Blessings and he was condemned and expelled from the Garden. Suddenly Iblis asked Allah for respite to the Day of Judgement.
“”He said,” My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected. He (Allah) said: So surely you are of the respited ones”.” 15/36-37
Iblees then accuses Allah for putting him in error so he issues a threat against Adam (plural) that he will make attractive on the earth and will mislead them all.
“”[Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, la-uzayyinanna (I will surely make disobedience attractive to them) fi (in) ardi (the earth) and I will mislead them all. Except, among them, Your chosen servants.”” 15/39-40
la-uzayyinanna comes from the Arabic root zāy yā nūn which means to adorn, deck. Adorn, grace, honor [said of an action, quality, or saying]. Embellished, dressed, or trimmed it [relating to language].
Adorned [ex. The earth, or land, became adorned with or by it’s herbage], ornamented, decorated, decked, bedecked, garnished, embellished, beautified, or graced him/it. Of language it is said: “It was embellished, dressed up, or trimmed”. Of action it is said: “It was embellished, dressed up”; i.e. commended to a person by another man.
It was Allah’s intention to place a new prototype of human being on the earth from the beginning. Adam’s temporary home in the Garden was not meant to last long. This Garden was not the After life Garden where no one will ever leave.
Adam was not yet placed in the earth yet Iblis is threatening to mislead all of Adamites in the earth. I believe the reason why Iblis then became the Shaytanu who was allowed to be in the Garden because of respite given to him by Allah.
Iblis became the Shaytanu and as Allah’s Plan was to have a new khalīfatan (successive authority) in the earth what ever Allah Wills, will be.
It seems that Iblees also knew that eventually Adam would be placed on the earth and be expelled from the Garden.
“[Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, la-uzayyinanna (I will surely make disobedience attractive to them) fi (in) ardi (the earth) and I will mislead them all.” 15/39
At this point the Jinns and previous human beings created on earth was causing corruption and blood shed and because of Allah’s is All Knowing, All Aware, eventually Adam and his wife and Adamites would be the new khalifatan (successive authority) on earth and would be replacing those who were already on earth causing call the corruption and blood shed who would be the prehistoric man and prehistoric Adam called the Jinns.
Remember Allah said instructed Adam and his wife to enjoy the Garden but not to approach a particular tree:
“And We said: “O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight, of things therein as wherever you will, but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zalimun (wrong-doers).” Sura 2/35
“And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrong-doers).” Sura 7/19
Allah warns Adam about Shaytanu:
“Then We said: “O Adam! Verily, this is an enemy to you and to your wife. So let him not get you both out of Paradise, so that you will be distressed.” Sura 20/117
At this point where is Shaytanu? Was he in the Garden still after being evicted out of it? Did Allah give Shaytanu respite to remain in the Garden with them as he asked Allah for respite?
“(Iblis) said: “Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up. He said: “You are of those respited.” Sura 7/14-15
“Iblis said: “O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected. Allah said: “Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, “Till the Day of the time appointed.” Sura 15/36-38
“Iblis said: “See this one whom You have honoured above me, if You give me respite to the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize and mislead his offspring all but a few! He said: “Go, and whosoever of them follows you, surely Hell will be the recompense of you (all) – an ample recompense.” Sura 17/62-63
“Iblis said: “My Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are resurrected. He said: “Verily! You are of those allowed respite. Till the Day of the time appointed.” Sura 38/79-81
Again, the Bible says:
“Now han·na·chash (the serpent) was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto han·na·chash (the serpent), Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.” Genesis 3:1-7
The Qur’an doesn’t give us the full story in terms rather Iblis respite allowed him to stay in the Garden but we know from the ayat below that Shaytanu was given respite and he was able to have a conversation with Adam and his wife and was allowed to whisper suggestions to them both:
“Then Shaytanu whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: “Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save that you should become angels or become of the immortals. And he swore by Allah to them both (saying): “Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both. So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called out to them (saying): “Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?”” Sura 7/20-22
